CEDAR FALLS - David H. Clay, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, May 17, at
Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
He was born Dec. 11, 1934, in Cedar Falls, son of Joseph B. and Grace
Hovelson Clay. He married Dorothy Balabon on Dec. 8, 1956, in Waterloo.
She died Feb. 6, 2002.
Mr. Clay was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and attended Iowa
State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa). He served
in the Iowa National Guard and worked at the family business, Clay
Equipment Co., for many years, where he was also the company pilot. He
was in the rental business for many years and was a member of Cedar
Falls AMVETS Post 49, the Black Hawk County Landlords Association and
the Quiet Birdmen.
Survived by: three sons, Bret (Donna) of Lacona, Greg (Amy) of Marion
and Mark of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Ashley Clay of Lacona, Joe
Clay of Ames and Alexis Clay of Marion, and a brother, Roger (Marian) of
Hudson.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Bob and Charlie; and two sisters,
Virginia and Josephine.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with
burial in Fairview Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar
Falls AMVETS Post 49. Public visitation from noon until services
Thursday at the funeral home.
